The family is together!

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

It’s been a rough few months, but things are looking up!!  The family is back together again!  Our furry kids were released from Quarantine on the 5th and I spent a very long day getting them from Sydney up to Brisbane.  Then it was 3 hours of driving in horrible weather to get them home!  They’ve settled in very well and are absolutely acclimated to the house.  It’s quite a relief.

Today we took Jack to the ocean for the first time.  That silly dog ran straight in to the surf without thinking twice and quickly found himself body surfing back to shore.  He took it a bit slower after that.

Wade’s Dad is doing better, which we’re all very relieved about.  We love him dearly and are happy to hear his voice again.

Other than that, winter here is slowly leading in to spring.  Lots of rain!!  The days have been somewhat warm (low 70′s) and the nights have gotten cold!  Our packed goods will be here in 2 weeks and then we’ll have all our favorite blankets and pillows.  That’ll make life as cush and comfortable as it gets!

11 years!

Yep, it’s Wade’s and my 11th Anniversary! Guess we’ll just have to spend a gorgeous Saturday at the beach. I doubt the kids will complain!

Just a little taste of Fraser Island for everyone :)

Mom’s Off!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

My Mom spent a great month with us and is now safely on her way back to the US.  I can say, without a doubt, that she’s looking forward to her dog, beautiful little Missy and seeing my Dad (not to mention her own bed, and less damp of weather)!  We’re counting the days until she visits again.

Thanks Mom!!

Time flies!

We’ve been here for almost a month now. We’re getting settled and used to the quirks of the new house. It’s a beautiful place. The kids still haven’t started school, but we’re not stressing about it. There’s a bit more paperwork to be done and uniforms to be ordered! As soon as they start I’ll post a picture of them in their new school outfits. All said and done, the entire primary school (K-7) has 112 students! We’re so happy with the size! The teachers are fantastic and folks are really looking forward to adding the Ness boys to their roster.

Thus far we’ve been as far north as Rockhampton (and the Capricorn Caves) and as far south as Brisbane. Last week we attended the Eumundi Street Fair which was spectacular. What a fantastic little town! Cooloola, where we do our grocery shopping, has a fruit market every Wednesday and a plant market every Saturday. I’ve already picked up a ton of bulbs to plant. They even grow year round here!

Our furry kids are still in quarantine and we miss them dearly. Missy is doing very well with my parents and has become a settled and happy cat. I can’t wait to have the other critters here with us!

On a very sad front, Wade’s father is very ill and most likely will pass away within the next few days. For those who didn’t know us then, Wade’s Mom passed away in March of 2009. It’s been a very hard time. Dad supported us endlessly and with great passion all through preparing for this move and so we know we have his love and he knows that he has ours. We love him dearly and will desperately miss him. I’ll keep everyone posted.

With any luck we will have internet at home in the next few days, and then communication will get much easier!

Lots of Love!

We’re here!

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Let’s see, after the loading we drove down to Canyon Country and dropped of the animals (that was 5 hours) then to LA to drop off the car (with traffic another 2 hours) then to LAX (30 minute tram).  We checked in and sat at LAX until our flight left at 11.55 pm!  Fletcher and Kristopher slept very well while Mom, Wade and I did well enough!  I can’t ever complain about Virgin Airlines!

We arrived in Brisbane at 6.30 am local time, grabbed our luggage and some coffee then started the 2 hour drive up to Rainbow Beach.  As usual, there was no traffic, no fuss and a gorgeous view the whole drive up.  This is an amazing country.

Needless to say we’re here, we’re safe and we LOVE our new house.  I’ll post some pictures after a good meal and an even better night’s sleep!

Thank you all for your love and continued support of our adventures!

How far to go?

Friday, July 9th, 2010

My goodness! Today was a mad rush! Our furniture is gone and the house is empty. All we have to do tomorrow morning is load the car and go. Granted, loading the car involves 6 suitcases, a box, 2 cats, 2 kids and a dog. Oy vey!

Time to remember to breathe! Until next time, CHEERS!

3 … 2 … 1 … AH!

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

We have finished the two most important events of the year on this side of the pond! The first was Baker’s Acres, a end of the year party that Fletcher has been looking forward to since his first day of Kindergarten. That was definitely worth the extra few weeks wait to move!!!!

The second event, the one we promised the family we’d be around for, was the yearly 4th of July Parade. The boys, of course, had a great time. They got to see their cousin (they only have 1 in their generation) and one of their Aunts. A very nice send off.

Our personal little bit of fun was July 3rd when we invited TONS of friends over for a BBQ. What a fantastic time! Lots of hugs, lots of tears, and lots of friends meeting friends for the first time. All in all just over 40 people popped in and out. Absolutely fantastic! Thank you all!!

We’re at T-2 days until take off. Time to breathe and remember that if we forgot to take it, we can live without it!!

Another week gone!

Wow is the time flying.  A bit too fast, honestly.  We have so many people we care about and not enough time to sit with each one.  Thankfully, we have the kind of close friends that aren’t afraid of the phone, of emails, and of planes.  We’ll all talk to and see each other soon.

Earlier this week we snuck in a little getaway with my parents.  The boys LOVE the Monterey Bay Aquarium so we spent a day there and even did a behind the scenes tour.  That was a lot of fun!!  The boys ran on the beach and I started wondering how long it will take before they’re really tired of the beach.  They’re young, I’m sure they won’t notice all the sand they drag in to the house, or mind the wet clothes like I will!

Our beautiful little cat, Missy, is now at her new home.  That was a very hard decision to make (leaving her behind) but she seems to be settling in nicely with my family.  She’s a great cat, she just doesn’t travel well and is getting up there in years.  The boys are going to miss her desperately, but we all agree that we made the right choice for her.  In the end, that’s what matters.

We love you Missy!

1 more day of school!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

They boys are super excited about their last day of school. I’m already wondering how much they’ll be begging to go BACK to classes after we put them to work packing boxes on Monday!

I’ve set up email accounts for both the boys so they can keep in touch with their friends. I know we are all going to miss folks!! I’m trying hard to get myself in to the habit of updating this site so that I can also get the boys (both big and little) in the habit as well.

There’s still lots of adventures to be had! The official countdown before the newest one begins? 29 days!
